Event Log #101 | DJ Setup | Uplighting | Dancing
On April 14, 2019, I had the pleasure to DJ Derek and Mandy's wedding. Derek is one of my cousin's closest friends and I knew him ever since I was young. I was excited for him when I heard he was engaged and felt even more excited when he asked me to DJ his wedding. It's an honor to DJ someone's once-in-a-lifetime event and even more so when it's someone you know.
On that day, I took care of their ceremony, cocktail, and reception. It was my first time at the Porter Valley Country Club so I gave myself extra time, in the beginning, to set up. For the ceremony, I ran a long extension cord from the power outlet to the grass lawn so I can power up my gear. I used a QSC K8.2 speaker along with my Shure QLXD24/SM58 wireless microphone. During the ceremony, everything went smooth and I timed my music exactly as how they wanted it. It was a beautiful ceremony as it looked over the golf course and waters.
For the cocktail hour, I used my Bose S1 at the patio deck area as guests enjoy cocktail and appetizers. While guests are mingling and taking pictures outside, I was finishing up my setup inside for the reception. The couple ordered my uplights and I set them up around the entire room and set them to light pink. I used my Ape Labs Maxi to cover the room and transformed the entire look! When the parents and bridal party walked in to take a sneak peak, they were impressed! As for sound, I used my 2 RCF EVOX 8 speakers and 1 RCF 708ASII subwoofer. Although the extra subwoofer wasn't needed, it definitely helped out to provide that club-like feel. The couple and their family and friends love to dance and party. For the hora, I suggested an EDM version of Hava Nagila to cater to both the bride and groom's taste. Throughout the night, I played some great party hits and some uptempo EDM music near the end to get everyone jumping.
Derek & Mandy had an amazing time and I'm so happy for them. At the end of the night, they were so kind to even leave me a video testimonial of what they have just experienced.
